The ‘Beijing Opera Art International Poster Biennale’ is making a stop in Toronto — exhibiting a curated selection of the nearly 200 posters chosen by the International Jury. The posters have been created by a range of designers and artists alike, each of whom illustrate the traditional Chinese opera through the lens of their own respective talents. The exhibition is thus an overview of the diversity of styles in contemporary poster and a reference to the traditions of Chinese culture.
This exhibition was jointly initiated by Chinese curator Xu Li and Sebastian Smit, chairman of the International Poster Biennale in Lublin, Poland. It is intended to display and disseminate a visual language focused on the Beijing Opera through posters that reflect the beauty of Chinese art.
